My name is Noor Al Shana; I am 19 years old, and I am from Gaza. I grew up in a simple yet loving family, filled with beautiful memories. We lived in a two-story house where we wove our dreams and laughter, but our most cherished memories were erased when we lost our house during the war. My father, who suffers from heart and cartilage disease, worked tirelessly to provide a decent life for us, a family of six. My mother, who was a skilled maker of sweets and cakes before the war, now suffers from neck and back problems, adding to her struggles amidst the ongoing displacement in Gaza. The war came like a relentless storm, changing our lives in moments. Our home turned to rubble, and with it, all that we hoped for sank. Despite narrowly escaping death time and again, safety remains an unreachable dream. Since October 7, 2023, we have not seen electricity, and darkness has become our constant companion. We survive on minimal water and food, suffering from the cold in winter and suffocating in the heat of summer, as our clothes and essential needs have dwindled due to continuous displacement. We left everything behind to escape death until we ended up in UNRWA schools after the hardship of sleeping in tents and on the streets under the threat of incessant shelling. In retrospect, I was a university student majoring in multimedia, with a passion for learning, a love for journalism, and a voice that I wanted to use to tell the stories of my people. But the war took even that hope from me, and the university became a shelter for the displaced instead of a beacon of knowledge and education. Today, I write this book and share part of my story wishing for a life of dignity for me and my family, a moment of safety, and a return to our stolen dreams. I appeal to everyone who hears my voice or read my words to help us start anew. I cowrote this book to support my family, which consists of my sick father and three brothers, as well as my mother who was a skilled cake and sweets maker before the war and now suffers from neck and back issues, while my father cannot work due to his health condition. Here is also a GoFundMe link through which you can extend your support and invite others to do the same: https://gofund.me/33c43260. The proceeds from this book and your contributions will go towards medicine, housing, food and clean water necessities, education, medical care, hygiene and help children whose lives have been upended by this devasting crisis. I pray for a world filled with peace and love. Sincerely, Noor
